On the campus of Forest View Primary School in Forest Hills, KZN, you will find the Pre-Primary Department. We enrol children who are three turning four by the 30th of June, up to six years of age. While FVPS Pre-Primary Department benefits from sharing the campus with the Primary School, the Pre-Primary school is completely separate and secured.
The Grade RR schooling programme is based on the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) as well as the National Early Learning Years Development Programme (NELDS). Learning is planned around play based activities which include water play, sensory activities, imaginative play, as well as the development of gross and fine motor skills.
Within the Pre-Primary area the Grade RR children are accommodated within their own garden and fringe area where learning takes place.
Learning in the Grade R follows the CAPS curriculum. A typical Grade R day would include Small Group Times, Large Groups as well as Creative activities, Baking, Library Discussion, Physical Education, Drama and Natural Science experiments as well as lessons in Phonics. Weekly opportunities are encouraged for the children to bring in Show and Tell items and group discussions around these are led by the child and guided by the teacher. The children are also encouraged to nurture the eco-friendly veggie garden by planting, watering and picking the produce they have grown.
These are interspersed amongst own choice Free Play in the Creative, Fantasy, Cognitive and Outdoor Areas.
Swimming during the 1st and 4th terms, with swimming instructors, also forms part of the Grade R weekly programme.
Forest View Pre-Primary School encourages and develops each child with a solid foundation.
