CHANTY de Marillac is a Grade 7 pupil at Forest View Primary and was chosen as its SPAR Star of the Month. Chanty is a valued part of the FVPS family, is a prefect as well as an athletics house captain. She started rhythmic gymnastics in 2012, when she was in Grade 3. She had been interested in rhythmic gymnastics since she was four-years-old and her family finally gave into her requests and let her start the sport. “We had no idea how talented she was at the sport,” said her mom, Cheryl. In her very first club competition in 2013, she came third in her age group and was chosen for the Limpopo team where she came first at level 2. The following year, 2014, she competed in both the provincial competition and national competition where she came first in South Africa at level 3. In 2015, Chanty was Limpopo champ and came third at the South African national championship, competing at level 4. The family relocated from Limpopo to KwaZulu-Natal at the beginning of 2016 and was eager to join the local Ocean Rhythmic Gymnastics team. This has definitely been a very exciting and stimulating year of her short gymnastics career and she has been so amazed by the level and quality of the coaching in KZN. 2016 has proven to be an extremely testing year for her too as she moved schools during her final year of primary school and trained extremely hard to achieve in her passion rhythmic gymnastics. Chanty was placed fourth in KZN at a competition in September and now proudly dons her KZN colours. The gymnast will compete with the KZN Rhythmic Team at the SA Games in Cape Town at the beginning of October. “Chanty is an asset to us at Forest View Primary School. She is an empathetic leader and an inspiring role model to our younger pupils. Chanty, and the entire KZN Rhythmic Team, we wish you well in October,” said Jean Montile, the public relations officer at Forest View Primary School. .
